The department started from 1994 along with the MBBS course and extended its PG program since 1999.
Post graduates teaching activities include case presentations, topic review, Journal presentations, Seminars and Clinical Ground Round in addition to the patient care prioties and orthopaedic OTs. Undergraduates are provided with exposure to orthopaedics via ward and OPD postings, classes, group discussions and seminars. Regular research works and publications are also done.
Hospital services in form of regular and speciality OPDs, In-patient services and major/intermediate/minor Operations are performed on routine and emergency basis. Super-specialized services have been made available by the department in form of Spinal surgery, Hip surgery, Knee surgery, orthopaedic oncology, pediatric orthopaedics, Traumatic surgeries, Illizarov procedures, Bone marrow densitometry and Rehabilitation services. The department also actively participates in community oriented programs and health camps.
The department has plans to establish 30 bedded Spinal cord injury unit, 50 bedded Trauma centre, 50 bedded Rehabilitation centre, 30 bedded joint care unit and other modern facilities to incorporate in the department.
